Potty Trained

So much has happened this weekend!  We had a garage sale because next week is the Bloomington city “curbside cleanup” where they haul away all your big junk for free.  Made a good bit of change and won’t have to move a lot of big stuff!

In the middle of the day Saturday, we decided to start the “3 Day Potty Training” method.  We’ve been talking it up with Joey for about 2 weeks now and buying underwear that have McQueen and Mater on them.

So, basically, you put the child in “big boy underwear” after having him throw away all of his diapers and get him drinking lots and lots of liquid.  Then… follow him around (play & interact) all day waiting for him to have an accident.  As soon as you see it’s happening, you pick them up and run to the bathroom so they can finish on the toilet.  Ok - there is a lot more phycology and logistics explained in the book and I followed all of it.

He’s been in his big boy underwear for 3 days and nights now and he is officially trained! Although he did have 2 accidents a Sunday and Monday during the training, it’s all  part of the process.  But from the very first day, he did not even get wet at night.  When I go in to check on him before I go to sleep, I lean over and whisper, “Remember to tell mommy when you have to go potty, ok?  Even if you have to get out of bed.”  It’s working!

Officially NO MORE DIAPERS!!!

Joey Has a Girlfriend

So, at Joey’s pre-school there is this one littler girl name Camela and she has always been very vocal about greeting Joey saying hello and goodbye and always greeting his dad, “Hi Joey’s Daddy” .. today when I picked him up he came running from across the room calling daddy daddy daddy, and Camela came along and met him at the door as he was hugging me, he then turns back towards the teachers and kids and waves and says goodbye. Camela was standing there and she and Joey step towards each other and hug one another goodbye.

So it begins..

Joey Helps Himself

So today we came home from shopping with Joey and we must not have been paying enough attention to him, but for the 1st time he pushed a chair over to the cabinets and climbed up on top of the chair to open the cabinet door in the kitchen to get himself a snack. The whole time saying “Snack, time to eat, Snacks”. He took out the fruit loops and Sherri poured him a bowl..

Joey’s 2 year party

It’s hard to believe it’s been a another whole year.  Feels like yesterday we were just celebrating bringing him home from the hospital.

We had Joey’s 2nd birthday party on Saturday.  All of the family came over and Joey’s friend Reier even brought his mommy & daddy, Daisy and Cody.  We had a car theme because Joey is really into his cars now - he drives his hot wheels for hours, watches the “Cars” movie and points out all the buses, firetrucks and ambulances we see when driving around.

Joe lined the driveway with checkered flags, we had a concession stand for food and a winner’s circle for drinks (traditional milk and champagne).  We also got a slot car racing set to entertain the adults - that was really fun!

Pictures will be posted soon.  We want to thank everyone for coming and for the gifts - WOW!  Joey’s sisters and their families bought him a train set activity table.  He’s been playing with it for the last 2 hours - I’m trying to coax him upstairs to get something to eat.  He got coloring/activity books, colors, a HUGE sucker, a Fisher Price starter computer, an ambulance, rescue truck, a big green tractor, blocks and the movie Wall-E.  He was beside himself all day!

Maybe the best part for him was having Addie stay over night, then seeing Luke and David the next day.  They all had such a good time.¼/p>

Potty Training made easy

So this weekend we had Joey go around naked, he had no accidents, and went potty and #2 in his chair.  We were outside and he would stop what he was doing, say “pooping” and we’d say “Quick! Quick! Get on your potty!” He’d run in, sit, get up and look - nothing.  This went on every 5 minutes for about an hour, then finally one time, he actually did #2.  I think he was suprised and a little shocked but we celebrated and clapped and then it was ok.

Now today 15th he was running around after his bath and was in sherri’s dressing room and stopped what he was doing saying “quick quick” and ran into the bathroom and went potty.

So for him, if he’s naked he is pretty potty trained, now we need to work on getting the pants down.

Mom gets kisses

So Joey demonstrated that he understood “reward for behavior.” I took a toy away from him that he was playing with and told him that he could have it if he gave mom a kiss.. He went to her, kissed her and raced back to me for me to give him his toy back..

Yobaby and The Straw

Ok, so I’ve been giving Joey Yobaby for his 10:00 snack with some fruit, but for the last couple days i’ve given it to him when he wakes up in the morning. He drinks it through a straw which he thinks is really cool. At the bottom there has always been some left over since it gets to be at an angle. yesterday he started manipulating the straw to get the very last drop out, today he did the exact same thing so we know it’s not an accident but something that he has learned.. Yeaaaaaaaaaaaa..

Beep beep

So it finally happened and Sherri was right when she said that all male children will pick up an object and use it as a gun. For Joey it is a car charger, and the only good news is he has a great “weaver stance” so he’s going around with it going beep beep. Cute, but sad too..

Jump Jump

Yep, a milestone was reached today as we witnessed Joey Jumping up and down. At 1st he’d jump up and fall to his butt and then lay down, however now he jumps up and lands on his feet now laughing.  So his feet only clear the floor an inch or two - it’s truly jumping with two feet!  I’ll try and get a video of it soon..
