Potty Trained

So much has happened this weekend!  We had a garage sale because next week is the Bloomington city “curbside cleanup” where they haul away all your big junk for free.  Made a good bit of change and won’t have to move a lot of big stuff!

In the middle of the day Saturday, we decided to start the “3 Day Potty Training” method.  We’ve been talking it up with Joey for about 2 weeks now and buying underwear that have McQueen and Mater on them.

So, basically, you put the child in “big boy underwear” after having him throw away all of his diapers and get him drinking lots and lots of liquid.  Then… follow him around (play & interact) all day waiting for him to have an accident.  As soon as you see it’s happening, you pick them up and run to the bathroom so they can finish on the toilet.  Ok - there is a lot more phycology and logistics explained in the book and I followed all of it.

He’s been in his big boy underwear for 3 days and nights now and he is officially trained! Although he did have 2 accidents a Sunday and Monday during the training, it’s all  part of the process.  But from the very first day, he did not even get wet at night.  When I go in to check on him before I go to sleep, I lean over and whisper, “Remember to tell mommy when you have to go potty, ok?  Even if you have to get out of bed.”  It’s working!

Officially NO MORE DIAPERS!!!

Gradual loss of innocence

At some point over the weekend in Atlanta, Joey figured out (or was told) what really happens at the beginning of Finding Nemo. Now when he watches, he’ll turn to us and say “Eat the babies” in a distressed voice and pout out his lower lip.

No more Pacifier for Joey

Well we made it through the night without a pacifier. Yep it just sort of happened 1st it was a nap without one, last night was the 1st night without it, he did his normal routine but without the pacifier. Got up at 4:30 and climbed into bed with mom and dad to sleep til 7:30 and on top of all that, he never asked for it.

Christmas Eve

Our new tradition is baking cookies after church on Christmas Eve so they are fresh for Santa.  Here is Joey helping to set them out along with milk and a note.

Joey’s 2 year party

It’s hard to believe it’s been a another whole year.  Feels like yesterday we were just celebrating bringing him home from the hospital.

We had Joey’s 2nd birthday party on Saturday.  All of the family came over and Joey’s friend Reier even brought his mommy & daddy, Daisy and Cody.  We had a car theme because Joey is really into his cars now - he drives his hot wheels for hours, watches the “Cars” movie and points out all the buses, firetrucks and ambulances we see when driving around.

Joe lined the driveway with checkered flags, we had a concession stand for food and a winner’s circle for drinks (traditional milk and champagne).  We also got a slot car racing set to entertain the adults - that was really fun!

Pictures will be posted soon.  We want to thank everyone for coming and for the gifts - WOW!  Joey’s sisters and their families bought him a train set activity table.  He’s been playing with it for the last 2 hours - I’m trying to coax him upstairs to get something to eat.  He got coloring/activity books, colors, a HUGE sucker, a Fisher Price starter computer, an ambulance, rescue truck, a big green tractor, blocks and the movie Wall-E.  He was beside himself all day!

Maybe the best part for him was having Addie stay over night, then seeing Luke and David the next day.  They all had such a good time.¼/p>

Bed hopper

Joey was bed hopping last night.  He started in his own bed and about an hour later we found him sleeping in Addie’s guest bed in my changing room.  Then another 1 1/2 hours later he crawled into bed with Joe (I was downstairs working late).  This morning at 5:30 am, he woke up, went back to his own bed and slept for another 2 hours.  Crazy kid!
