Riding in the Trunk

We went to help a fellow firefighter celebrate his birthday and at one point their dog got out and ran down the street. It was pretty dark but Joey wanted to go along to find the dog. So he and Kelly and the neighbor lady went walking.

After they crossed the street at the end of the block, Joey said, “This is really far. I think we are lost. This is awkward.” The neighbor lady said, “You really like the word awkward, don’t you?” He said, “Yeah, it means weird.”

So they were too far away and Kelly called his wife to come and get them with the truck. They all rode back in the truck bed and when they got back, Joey was jumping around extremely excited. He raced up to the house saying, “We found the dog and then we rode in the trunk! We rode in the trunk all the way back here!”

Sports

Our son is very competitive – probably because we are.

We have him signed up to start Soccer with the Eastview Athletic Association. No more messing around! He now has soccer cleats, shin guards and an appropriate sized ball. He wore the cleats all weekend because he can run really fast! Soccer starts next week.

Mid-June is T-ball season. For that he is signed up through the city of Rosemount. We got a practice T and went out to hit the ball this afternoon. He is doing really well, I think. We also played catch. He is still getting the feel of the glove but he did catch a few throws. I think he will do fine.

Ditch the Training Wheels

Daddy took the training wheels off of Joey’s Lightning McQueen bike about a week ago. He’s been coasting down the little hill onto the patio and has been getting his balance right.

Today he is truly riding it. He can take off, pedal around the grass, pedal onto the pavement and stop without falling down.

Wow! Our little boy is growing wings.

Spring Break 2012

Ok – so I never went on “Spring Break” but since Joey is out of school because Rosemount schools are on spring break, we have taken him to the Wisconsin Dells!

Our first two nights we stayed at Mt. Olympus. We had a room that had a really cool bunk bed for Joey so we made a fort out of the bottom one with the blanket. He slept on top the first night, on the bottom the second night.

Some of the outdoor stuff was open because it has been so nice out so Joe and Joey road the go-karts the first day. They started out in 9th place and came in second! Joey was so stoked!

Day 2 we went out and played miniture golf at Pirate’s Cove, then had lunch at the Moose Jaw, then rode the military (camo painted) duck boats. Toured the river and Lake Delton. A truck that turns into a boat – so much like something out of Cars II. Again, a hit with Joey. We went back and rode the go-karts again, Joey rode the kid’s airplane ride and then we did some swimming, then played in the arcade collecting SO MANY tickets!! We ended up with 515 tickets so Joey got a new set of firefighter vehicles, a jet airplane, a glider plane and some tootsie rolls. Quite a haul!

Some friends had recommended we try out The Wilderness Resort so we checked out of Mt. Olympus and checked in there. The Wi-Fi is much better, and the water parks (they have 3 instead of just one) are larger, lighter, and with more activities. Our room was ready right away (usually you have to wait until 4) so we got in right away and hit the pool.

We were exhausted by 3:30 – first rode the bumper boats, then went up and down the slide, over and over and over. We got Joey to go down the higher “family boat tube” where we all sat in a big inner tube boat and went down a very dark tunnel slide. He was scared going up (that was a lot of steps) and when we came out the end he said, “I guess that was a lot of fun after all!”

We all took a 35 minute nap, then went out for dinner. We found the steak house that is affiliated with the Wilderness and it was SO GOOD! Relaxing atmosphere, pleasant wait staff, warm decor and very good food.

Back to the hotel and into the arcade. They don’t have actual tickets here, they have swipe cards and after you play, your card is credited with your tickets. So it definately cuts down the satisfaction factor because you can’t physically touch what you are winning. This is the only thing we have found to be a bummer about this place.

When we plan our next trip to the Dells, we will definately be staying here!

Major Purchase

We have a plan for the back yard this summer – a pool, surrounding deck, grass. Then for the fall, maybe a hot tub. Well, we just couldn’t resist the sale and bought a Legacy Spa from Master Spa & Pool on Saturday. It was delivered Monday and is now just reaching soaking temperature.

It is a mineral water system instead of chlorine – that is also what we want to do with the pool so David can swim. Hopefully the maintenance is fairly simple.

I’m so excited!! Going to take our first soak tonight!

The Assumed Close

The boys were playing a game on Joe’s computer, bonding. Suddenly Joey gets up off of Joe’s lap and heads across the room. Joe asks, “Where are you going?”

Joey answers, “I’m going to get you a Diet Pepsi and we can share it!”

Joe says, “But I didn’t ask for one.”

The answer, “That’s ok, we can just share it.”

The Lorax

The Dr. Seuss movie opened Friday so we took Joey to the 5:00 pm show in Rosemount. It was really fun – sing ing fish, dancing bears, fuzzy trees, Betty White.

Amy took him again on Saturday. He liked it the second time too. Especially the part where the kid glows after swimming.
